Yes I think it is possible…. But I think we women ourselves have to take the trouble to watch women’s cricket…. Im quite ashamed to say that I myself was one of those who thought men’s cricket was the only form of cricket…. We need to back ourselves, because pursuing cricket as a profession is something that is discouraged among women in India especially (its happening to me so I assume it would happen to everybody)…. Also, we need to demand equality in treatment, to get facilities, kits, GROUNDS, umpires and CROWD (women WHERE ARE U)…… The point in women’s cricket is that even though people term it slow paced is that women are technically perfect i thought….. And the drives and lofts are handsome to watch, i think i will enjoy watching it provided its played in the vicinity or telecasted…. It might take up to another 5 years….

Oh yes, its coming, you can bank on it. Mo cricket and mo cricket, that’s the ticket. Everybody has seen enough of the old stuff like football, basketball and baseball. People are tired of being fat, drinking beer, eating brats and all that. Cricket is the sport of the future because everybody, even old people, can participate and not just sit in a huge stadium and watch. Participatory sports like volley ball, cricket is the future. The trouble with golf is that it takes up too much real estate and requires extremely expensive care. People rather have walking trails and parks for the public, not exclusive golf courses. It ironically is anti-green and represents the ruling elite. The backlash against the ruling elite is surging and will become increasingly important for a long, long time. Off with their heads, starve the beast!
Lists and research are being conducted now to identify and name names. There will be hell to pay for the greedy, ostentatious “masters of the universe.” Watch and see.

I’m not sure whether it can be equally popular as men’s cricket but things can be done to improve the popularity.
I’m not sure about the rules of the game for women but if its the same, I think modifying the rules would be a better idea
For example in athletics, we have 110 M hurdles for men but for women its 100M(there are technical reasons for that as well),likewise in tennis we have a three set game for women but a 5 set game for men.Just giving examples
So maybe we have to try something like that in cricket if its not been tries out.Again I cannot say whether it will be popular to the same level but it would increase it

Women’s cricket needs to more attractive. They should play aggressive cricket. Not many teams are aggressive. They try to play out the 50 overs in an ODI match. Mostly the runrate hovers around the 3.0 to 4.0 mark. The bowlers needs to be faster, the batsmen should play good shots. Even if all this happens, the most important thing is rivalries like Australia-England, Australia-India, etc in Men’s cricket. As the intensity of the rivalry soars, men and women will flock to watch the game. They will cheer the women. Once people starts watching the game, the game will be telecasted live, the sponsorship deals will follow them and popularity will see new highs. And it will totally change women’s cricket.
You know why Women’s Tennis and Swimming is popular, Don’t you?

Women’s sports are never that popular with the exception of Women’s Olympics Volley ball (thanks to the sweet shorts) roller derby, gymnastics, ice skating, and Porn.
People want to watch the best of the best play and compete. Watching women’s pro sports means Im not watching men’s pro teams, Ive skipped men’s collage, and high-school sport and now Im watching women’s pro ?????. Womens pro teams are usually about as good as a really good highschool team. The only step down is peewee and drunk guys playing softball after work. I aint watching any of that and I sure as hell aint paying to watch it.
For example. In the US womens pro basketball spent millions upon millions trying to get people to watch. They would make it sound like the latest craze. They did this for a year until they woke up to the fact that no one cared.

I don’t think so, unless there is considerably more television coverage. The problem with womens cricket is that it just doesn’t get shown on television, even the world cup wasn’t televised over here even though our team made it into the finals. Until this improves then it won’t gain in popularity.
Also the ballance of abilities is poor in Womans Cricket. Look at the New Zealand vs Pakistan Match, In the mens cricket this would be a close match to call but in the womens New Zealand won by 223 runs, scoring 373 and bowling Pakistan for 150.

Not in the near future. I do enjoy watching women’s cricket but only because it is rare that l get the chance to see it – if it was on more often l probably would get tired of it after a while and stick to watching the men play.

“Womens tennis and swimming is quite popular, along with track sports.”
Only if the female cricketers start wearing skimpier outfits.

  • nina never gets it said:

I doubt it. So far no traditionally male sport has has any women quite as popular as the men.

You’re kidding right? How many people do you think would pay even 50 cents to watch womens cricket?

    Don’t know.
But i think BCCI should take some steps & ICC also.
They should send Womens team with Men team.
No Date clash of matches of men & womens.
Men player should go to stadium to cheer there Nation team.
    Edit- Queen
Women games are not powerful & high scoring as men game.
    There is less sponsership.
Don’t know on which channel there matches was broadcasted(world cup)
    No Advertisement
    Many other things
Edit- I know i was only giving some of the reasons

i don’t know how many years it will take, but i like watching Women’s cricket – i think its easier for me to relate to than men’s cricket , although i like men’s cricket too
i already enjoy watching both forms equally , or maybe slightly unequally , but its personal taste really
yep , women’s tennis , swimming and track sports are pretty popular – but you’ve got to hand some of the publicity to the Olympics
if Women’s cricket were to feature in the Olympics too, itd be alot popular than it is now

Well, I definitely hope so. It is very discriminatory of the viewers and the Board to sideline the Women matches.
After this WC, tho, things look better for the girls. There was much more discussion about this WC than any previous one. I hope that’s a sign of better things to come for the women cricketers.
I have no problem in viewing women playing cricket, as long as they can bat for long hours. I admit that the scores are highly disappointing and hardly go above 250, but you have to keep shut about that part. At least they have enough courage to go play cricket – a typical “man’s” sport, as most think…

    I doubt it too!!!
but would definitely like to see them overtake the Men!!
@least we know that women r playing cricket now, unlike before!
edit; colin from down under, that was rude!!
edit;I think, any women’s sport will be popular, only if people consider talent and not glamor!!
Women r as capable as men, but they don’t get the same support and appreciation!
edit; RIP, i agree…but… well..lets not get into this men vs women now!
BTW, good answer RIP and Black Mamba!
and sorry, i was angry on the other answerers, that i generalised men!
