How Do You Know If It Is A Real Cricket Bat?

How much does it cost?
Is it supposed to be heavy or really heavy?
Should the face be hard and polished?
I bought a bat for about $50 but it doesn’t seem to hit the cricket ball very hard, rather absorbing most of the impact.

No. Decent bats vary from around $300-500. Your bat is made out of Kashmir willow.
Bats can be both, light and heavy, I personally like my bats light.
The bat should be polished but it depends where you bought it. I bought my bat from Kingsgrove a month ago and they polished it with bat oil for me. I bought another bat last week from a “no-name” store and it wasn’t polished or knocked in, but you can by bat oil like I did and do it yourself.
The bat you bought seems like the one you would use in the backyard or park with some mates. But, if you are playing cricket this season it’s best to go to Kingsgrove, they have good bats there, and they knock it in for you and polish it.
I have no idea really, but the cricket bat I won in a CA Christmas promotion last year is a Kookaburra & is rather light in weight (probably around 2kgs) & was valued by CA at $500.Of course that may be because it has the teams signatures on it & a letter of authentification to go with it.It doesn’t appear to be polished, but it’s hard to tell as it has a covering over the surface to protect the players signatures.
Dear Tum Tum,

Interesting!
If it does not hit the cricket ball very hard its worth $50..I should think!! I have used more expensive bats that never hit a ball of their own volition.
On a more serious note, the impact of the ball on the wood deforms it or the ball..and…displaces the bat in the direction of the balls momentum..and…also imparts a force back to the ball….All this if the bat is static!
The hardness of the wood and the balance of the bat (ie., the center of gravity) is an important determinant of the degree of displacement and deformation. A good bat is made up of hard-wood and is well balanced.

Has it been knocked in? thats probably the 1st thing to come to mind
