How To Make A Cricket Go To Sleep Temporarily?

11 November 2009 6 Comments

I captured this cricket (which I named Jiminey) in my house and want to keep it as a pet. I want to be able to transfer it to a bigger container, but I want to do it in a way that Jiminey won’t be hopping around everywhere. Will putting him in the refridgerator cause him to hibernate temporarily?
Thanks

Haha – the cold will put them to sleep. I had a bag of crickets I got from the pet store which I left in my car to run quickly into another store. When I got back to the car, all the crickets were belly up. When they got in my house and started to warm up, they all slowly came back to life.

It will- but only put him in the fridge for 5 mins or so- it will make him sleepy but any longer and he can die… killed a whole container of crickets doing that once, but you usually put them in five mins before you need to use them so they dont all jump out and escape!

Honestly, the best bet is to use dry ice. Only leave it exposed for the length of time iot takes to put it asleep, then move it. Magicians use this technique to cause an illusion of bringing dead flies back to life.

That cricket is not a pet, it’s a wild creature. Let the poor thing go, and stop thinking about putting him in a fridge.
