It was inevitable. NASDAQ listed Live Current Media’s costly experiment with running a digital business centred around Cricket in India has ended now, with the company selling the prized Cricket.com domain, and assigning its Indian Premier League (IPL) contract to Global Cricket Ventures (GVC) for $1.75 million plus related expenses. In its simplest form, good governance is responsive to the basic, legitimate and essential needs of the governed. In tight fiscal circumstances it also requires judicious decision-making on spending priorities. PPP/C governments since 1992 have undoubtedly made good decisions on spending but they have also made many bad ones. It does boggle the mind that 17 years after it took office, the PPP/C has not seen it fit to improve the means of transport of Guyanese to and from the northwest.

Well, it’s time once again to get rid of some of that random stuff buzzing around in my consciousness.  This time I’ve got an update, an observation and an opinion.  So, here goes… This is an update to the neighbors who were parking in their neighbors’ driveway for three weeks straight.  I guess they did it once too often.  One day a Realtor came to show the house and swung around to park in the driveway in back when she saw there was a car already there.  She ended up parking perpendicularly behind my house instead.  I’m sure she put a bee in the listing Realtor’s ear, because she called me to ask, once again, whose car that was.

On Sunday, I played in my cricket club’s annual coed 7-a-side match.  It is a great day full of homemade cakes (yummy), lots of drink (some more than others) and a bit of fun playing with the opposite gender.  While it’s competitive, people still tend to be a bit more chill.  And when the ladies are up to bat, they tend to take a bit off of the speed.  Maybe not the entire time if the girl is smacking them for a bit, but at least at first.  They try to stay in the spirit of the game.  There were

Dope-tainted Pakistan pacer Mohammad Asif has been issued strict instructions by the PCB to avoid speaking to the media on any subject until his 12-month ban ends on September 22. Asif, who has been picked in Pakistan’s Champions Trophy squad despite serving the ban for having tested positive in the Indian Premier League last year, has been told by Pakistan Cricket Board’s Director (Cricket Operations) Zakir Khan to avoid the media.

Posted: 28 Aug 2009 07:04 AM PDT A Guest Post by Pamela Wilson from WriteSmart . When I was a second-year cadet journalist on an Australian newspaper, my chief-of-staff gave me a coveted assignment. ‘I need you to interview Australian cricket captain Allan Border for a story about daylight savings,’ he said. I grabbed my pen and notebook (both sporting L-plates) and reached for the phone, but in my heart I knew the esteemed Allan Border would never speak to a cub reporter about daylight savings.

Lahore, Aug.31 (ANI): Former Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General Zakir Hussain Syed has criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ijaz Butt for succumbing under the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) pressure and ending the legal war against it regarding the 2011 World Cup hosting issue. “As I write this I am 38,000 feet above sea level, hurtling towards New York City at 533 statute miles per calendar hour. Happily Alan, the captain of the plane, has personally popped down to tell me the current cricket score – my chosen career and its attendant baggage of fame have their advantages (carry-on baggage of fame, I suppose one should term it). The flight deck had tuned in to the BBC’s 198 longwave transmissions of TMS to receive the news that England were 100 for 3. No loss of wickets yet.

Winner or Loser J. Peter Daniel The trend of the younger generation is to have victory in all the fields. They are not able to accept the word ‘failure’ or ‘defeat’ or ‘loser’.  This has been clearly indicated in the cricket scenario.  The cricketers will be praised when they win.  But they will be ruined when they fail to win.  The failure is a bitter pill that will take long time to digest it.

So it’s down to the last episode of the season for True Blood, but unfortunately it won’t air until Sept. 13. I’m not much of a tv person but this is one show I can’t miss week to week. Everybody needs some good old escapist entertainment once in awhile I guess, and True Blood is right up there with zombie movies for me in that regard. It’s too bad there’s no undead, blood sucking freaks in Duryea. The town here would certainly be more interesting.
