Should Australia Have A Second Side In World Cricket?

17 February 2010 12 Comments

At the moment the Aussies are so far ahead of everyone else it’s even gone beyond a joke.
There are suggestions that if Australia entered a 2nd team they would still be near the top of the rankings. Do you think this would be good or bad for world cricket. It would certainly create some closer games, and perhaps challenge the Australians.

Well we certainly have the talent, but I feel it would deprive the state teams of valuable players. For instance look at NSW.So far they’ve lost Lee, Clarke, Clark, McGill,Bracken, Haddin,Jaques,(some part time),but if there were two teams, the ODI players would all go & NSW would be up the creek without a paddle. No, I think it should stay as is.
Edit: Blouspoo, what a nasty little person you are! Australia are NOT bad winners, they are always complimentary to the opposition, nor are they arrogant. You say this because they have beaten your team, well that goes to show you’re a bad loser! Now go away & whinge somewhere else.

Quite a few years ago when England and Zimbabwe toured, it was thought that the competition wouldn’t be strong enough, so they had the concept of Australia A playing in the ODI’S, The finals were played by both Australian teams with the senior team winning.
That is because Australia has great depth, and the training structures from little ones to open age players is the best in the world.
Australia’s second team would be strong enough to defeat most teams in world cricket, but if the concept was to happen it would make a mockery of cricket world wide, what would countries say about a second string team beating a majority of first grade teams, who are supposedly meant to be their countries best team.
Maybe it is time to divide the test playing nations into divisions, and every four years (after teams have played a home/away series) have a promotion/relegation process where the worst team in D1 is relegated and the best from D2 is promoted.
    Division 1, contains
    Australia
    Sth Africa
    India
    England
    Sri Lanka
    Division2, contains,
    West Indies
    Pakistan
    Bangladesh
    New Zealand
    Zimbabwe
Maybe this might give incentives to teams to always play their best cricket, to avoid relegation and achieve promotion.
    That’s just my thoughts.
If you like, fine, if not who cares.

nahh no way, it would take away the feeling of unity when australians watch australians play cricket, besides if the two sides went up against each other, who would we cheer for??

There domestic circuit is pretty strong and they they have such a raw talent that they can A or B or C sides still they be the top side in the world and they play on great grounds with great grounds which countries in Asia lack…..most certainly.
