What Are The Steps Cricket Should Take Towards Olympic Dreams?

1 December 2009 3 Comments

What steps should cricket ( I am talking about T20 cricket, which, contrary to the opinions of some myopic oldies, is just as real cricket as Tests) take towards Olympics. 2012 and 2016 are out of the question, but 2020 is not. By then, how should cricket add to it’s resume and global appeal? It’s already in the 2010 Asian Games, and China will field a team! Next step Commonwealth games…?

I think three or four drop in pitches will need to be specially made for the Olympics because I would hate to see an Olympic cricket tournament to be ruined, particularly when held in a non-cricket nation, because of the pitch not being up to scratch. Pitches need to be made out of soil types that are known to be good for cricket pitches, and they need to have an opportunity to be played in in other cricket (either international or domestic).

I think London could have been a good place to introduce cricket in Olympics,it being the birthplace of cricket.
It was a part of commonwealth games in 1998,but not in 2002 and 2006,I am not sure about 2010.
I think cricket HAS to be in Commonwealth games,as it is played only by Commonwealth countries
It has been included in Asian games 2010,Guangzhou,China for the first time ever
It’s a good thing that cricket will be played in a non cricketing country
T20 Matches should be organised in non cricketing countries
That’s the best way to do it.
The Asian (subcontinent) population residing there will come to watch it atleast.
