What Is It About Cricket That Indian Men Get So Crazy About It?

25 December 2009 3 Comments

I want to understand this Indian male craze for cricket.
Can you guys tell me what is it exactly that hooks you on to cricket?
How many of you watch cricket because every boy/ man is doing it (peer pressure)?
And what gets women so hooked on to cricket?

There has always been an audience for whatever be the sport. Witness: the spectators for gladiators fighting it out in Roman colosseums. In other words sports involve mastering and displaying either physical skills or intellectual capabilities or both. So long as there is a combat between varying levels of skill for obtaining, the laurels, trophy, or goals there will be an interest in men matching their abilities against human or natural challenges (rapids, mountains, storms). In some cases the trophy is life itself. Again, therefore, so long as men set themselves challenges there will be those who take up the challenge and those who participate vicariously: the audience. Its got nothing to do with mere masculinity. It has everything to do with the spirit of the combat.

Maybe its being able to take out their aggression by hitting something with a large wooden stick.

In India the cricket is not a game but it is p[lay ed as a war as you can see India and Pakistan matches. People from these areas have a passion of cricket because in cricket when hit a four or six to your opponent, the opponent feels depression which gives the spectator an enjoyment because there competitors are going to lose the game. Also cricket is one ball game no one knows that what will happen after this ball or after this over. You can make a record in each over no matter whether you are a bowler or a batsman. In each ball there is a suspense. it looks like that the blood is running at a full speed. More over one team can win the game even if it is very near to lose the game and vise verse. Also these areas are of high population and cricket is a game which needs lot of time and the people of these areas are not totally employed so they spend their time on watching cricket but this is not the basic reason i have told you above.
