I would choose winning a test series in Australia is a bigger
thing than the world cup. In a test series and being away a team
will be in a hostile situation including pitches that may not very
well suit both for bowling and batting, home sick, different
culture and environment and many more. The team needs to
play for 5 days and 3 or more tests in a series and it is tough.
On the other hand, a World cup match last a max of a day and
it is different game plan and does not have as much difficulty
level as test cricket involves. If the draw suits well, a team
can very well be in the finals and win the game even against
    a top quality team.
Test cricket is about skill, resiliency, concentration and hence
it is tougher than ODI or 20/20 games.
I would rather choose 1-0 test series win rather than winning
all the way in world cup match.

    Good question, Monti.
My personal opinion i winning the world cup is a bigger achievement. It is more prestigious.
Yes, winning a test series in Australia is probably the toughest job, but it still can’t be compared to the WC.

World cup consists of matches in the ODI format.
in cricket test matches can check ur main skills.

    World cup
for that u need to beat the team that is also in good form

World cup consists of matches in the ODI format. Test series is a different format. One is a sprint event. The other one is a marathon event. Each one is separate and can not be compared. Each item is tough in its way.

Winning the world cup would mean you beat the world’s best, beating Australia, you still beat the world’s best but it doesn’t alter your status in the ICC rankings.

I think winning in Australia and being number one test side is more tougher and prestigious than the world cup.world cup comes second.Like for the English, I think there is nothing like the Ashes.World Cup is over rated and is a marketing hype, winning test matches is way more tougher and more prestigious.

winning a 5 test series in aussie would be the hardest thing to acheive in cricket today. i remember new zealand came so close to winning a series in aussie a few years ago but some desperate batting from steve waugh and some terrible umpiring saved their bacon and it ending up being a drawn series.
cant say i agree with kookee about every minute of every game of the ashes being competitive, the last ashes was one sided slaughter. the 2005 ashes was like that though
and a 5 test series between aussie and south africa would be tougher than the ashes

I would have to agree with you
winning a test series in australia will be exteremly diffucult for India but possible
    fora couple of reasons
    1. Australia would have advantage of having their crowd support them
    2. India will be facing what i think is one or the best cricket team
If india did win a test series in Australia all of India would go wild in complete celebration, but they would do the same if they won a World Cup.
But the fact of beating australia which is one of India’s toughest rivals.

As an England fan i would prefer to see England win The Ashes rather than win the World Cup. The Ashes is the most prestigiuos competition in cricket.
    What’s tougher ??
Good Question. Playing the Aussies 5 times in a row and beating them is an unbelieveable feat, Australia are the best team in the world there’s no denying that, to beat Australia in there home patch you either have to be a great team or you won’t be able to win
That’s the difference between the 2 for me
In a world cup you could get a favourable draw, you could play mediocare teams most of the way through the tournament, and then beat the best in the Semi’s and Final.
In The Ashes every minute of every match is important, every minute of every match is competitive, and sadly the same thing can’t be said about the World Cup

You are right but winning the world cup is more precious.
Beating AUSTRALIA is very difficult but winning a world cup is a bigger achievement.

ODI’ s n Test matches can never be compared, but winning a WC includes playing against all the teams in different conditions,so certainly winning a WC is a bigger achievement.

both have its own value and importance world cup win is rather ahead than test series win in australia. but don’t forget that test cricket is real cricket.

definetily winning the test series in australia becoz it gaves a great feeling when you beat your biggest rival in his native place

  • somdyuti said:

In my personal opinion winning the World Cup is more important, because the World Cup is a more prestigious tournament, and the world cup champion is considered to be the best, and superior to all other country. Moreover, since Australia is such a good side, in order to win the world cup, any other side may have to face Australia atleast once during the tournament, and if they manage to secure a victory against the Aussies, it’s equivalent to winning a series in Australia. Even if a side wins the WC without having faced Australia atleast once, it will simply mean that Australia has lost before to some other team, which will indicate that they haven’t played so well. Besides, I think Australia’s golden days are gradually coming to an end. There has been a sharp decline in their standard of batting, and India has already won the ODI against Australia series this time
