I’ll say Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram.
Waqar Younis- He was fast, fast and furious. He was the man who transformed the art of reverse swing, he came up with a special technique of his own and single handily won many matches for Pakistan.
    ————————————–…
Wasim Akram – He is named as one of the best bowlers who ever played the game. He had the ability to swing the ball both ways and he perfected that art in the early stage of his career.
One was a right handed bowler and the other was a left handed bowler, together they made an awesome duo.
I think Glen McGrah and Brett Lee were also a great opening pair but Waqar and Akram had a …special charm to the way they used to bowl.
They were dangerous on any given day but as the ball started to swing, they were destructive!

The best combo was Waquar and Wasim without a doubt in my mind, they were certainly the most feared. Both very fast and big swingers of the ball, a devastating combo if there ever was one, especially in one dayers.
As to my favourite, being a kiwi I’ll go with Sir Paddles and Ewen Chatfield, with Chatfield bowling his nagging line and length and tying down the batsmen from one end and the Hadlee steaming in and swinging the ball in all out attack from the other end. It was a thing of beauty

Without question in the 70′s -80′s Lillee & Thompson. Fst, feared and on home turf a handful for the greatest batsman.
The Windies can lay claim to having the most ferocious quicks and more than two at a time – Andy Roberts, Holding then followed by Patterson, Garner and later Ambrose and Walsh and Marshall….
In the 30′s Larwood & Voce were fantastic against Bradman’s Ozzies…
There is NO one top pair…each generation, even decade had the greats.

Wasim Akram, the king of swing.
Waqar Younus, the furious partner of Wasim Akram.
Their bowling attack was one of the best in cricket. Both were great players.

It is an interesting question as older users will have a different view than younger ones. Hall and Griffith (WI) would have been the best opening pair I have seen followed by Lillee and Thomson.

Wasim and Waqar both got around 50% of their wickets bowled or lbw, that really puts them in a class of their own, most top bowlers achieve only about 30-40%

Am a bit of an Aussie fan.
But even I have to say the foursome (they varied who opened), that were the most devestating I ever saw were.
    Marshall
    Garner
    Ambrose
    Walsh
It really didn’t matter who opened.
