Why Do Some Cricket Fans Here Tend To Link Personal Behavior With How A Great A Cricket Was?

28 October 2009 13 Comments

I am totally sick of it. I mean who really cares? Let their cricket do the talking.
About 10 years after a retirement, only their cricket will be remembered anyway.
Players doesn’t have “Extremely arrogant at times” or “Is a very sore loser” in their bios anyway.

There is no point taking any notice of what the keyboard warriors have to say. Although they have Arnold Schwarzenegger as their ID picture, they are really some sad, skeletal little individual who sits at home in their underwear drinking weak tea and rubbing their private parts. Seriously, everyone knows the cricketers who they are targeting are brilliant sportsmen (Ricky Ponting wears a fair bit of crap, but statistically hes the number 2 batsmen of all time), even those who do the slating. If you aren’t confident in your own ability no one else will be, so accusing sportsmen of having an air of arrogance is like accusing a politician of being a wanker, its obvious.
Ignore them mate, they really dont matter.

I have to agree with the first answer, it’s an opinion. Unfortunately whether you like it or not as a cricketer your personal traits are going to influence the view people have of you, your in the spotlight and as a cricketer and sportsman people are going to place stereotypes and generalisations upon you, the public expect players to be ‘respectable’ and all these other stereotypical traits.
But you and I and everybody else knows that a cricketers ‘personal behavior’ won’t change their ability in the world of cricket but unfortunately it can and will change the personal view and opinion the public have on them.

Well some of the people here are first class hypocrites who believe only their opinion should stand. They think that the world revolves around them. If they say that Pointing is the second best player ever or for that matter Sachin is the best player ever then peoplee should just blindly accept what they believe .Many examples are there in the answers in this question. Anyways your question is hypocritical itself. You say people wont remember peoples behaviour and only remember their cricket. Going by your facts Harbhajan should be respected in Aus which he is not because of his behaviour. SO both do the talking my friend and no one can enforce an opinion on another . Everyone has their choices. Cheers.

Many times, players are raw models and once your in the spot light ever move you make, even in personal life is watched by the media and fans, unfortunately, that’s the sad part of being a celebrity sportsmen. A true sportsmen is a one who sets an ideal eg, on and off the field. Sometimes its disturbing but its the liability of being famous.

Are they real fans or just pretenders out to have some fun after their ‘weak’ tea and strong beers?
A lot of crap is flying around about top cricketers, especially Ricky, Harbhajan, Symmonds etc. They are cricketers of unbelievable caliber, yet are simple human beings with all the vulnerabilities this species boasts of.
I’d rather watch Symmonds and Harbhajan play each other than some so called goodies making a farce of this game and boring me to death.

Bloody well said Dougie. I couldn’t have put it in better words myself.
Bottomline, these tosspots need to shut the hell up and realise that their ramblings aren’t going to change the reality. If it’s Punter you have in mind, then its obvious that he is talked about a lot because he really is that good a player. Being the second greatest batsman in history is an amazing accomplishment. Period.

I agree with you. They not only voice their personal behaviour but also tend to be abusive and post irrelevant rant robbing the sheen out of an otherwise interesting Q and A session.
