Why Has There Never Been Scored A Double Century In One Day Cricket?

19 February 2010 13 Comments

In test match cricket several double centuries and even triple centuries have been scored. But why no double century in one day cricket ever? After researching i discovered that the highest score ever in one day was 194 runs by Saeed Anwar of Pakistan against India in 1997. When do you think that 194 score of Saeed Anwar will be broken, by whom will it be broken and when? Or do you feel the 194 record of Saeed Anwar will stay forever?

Well, test cricket goes on for 5 days….90 overs per day…if you do the maths, you can see how cricketers manage to score double or triple centuries with ease in these cases. On the other hand, with just 50 overs, it makes it harder to get a double century.
I think someone will eventually break Anwar’s record since cricket is definitely more a batsman’s game. I remember Steve Waugh thought Gilly would be the first cricketer to score a double hundred and being an opening batsman, he does stand a chance. I know I”d love to see him do that, but somehow, I doubt he will because as exciting as he is…he falters before reaching that milestone. If I had to say from the present day cricketers, I’d say Gilly…but if not, I think it will be way into the future of the game that someone will score a double hundred.
Just so you know though, a double hundred has been scored in women’s ODI cricket by Belinda Clark…214 n.o.

Very soon somebody is gonna break that record, records are made to break them.
Very recently a Srilankan called Dhanuka Pathirana who blasted a 277 runs off 72 balls, set an alltime record .
    29 sixes and 18 fours.
This was a world record made for the first time by a batsman.
    Do you know this???

Yes, it will be beaten by a youngster. It is going to be a miracle and wonder of hitting 200 runs in ODI. Being a Miracle it takes long time to happen,
    wait and see

Sanath Jayasuriya tried to brake that many times. He will do that in near future,he is the only one who can do that..

it will happen, sooner than later with the stroke players playing todays game. gilchrist hit 230 odd in a club grade one day matcth. years ago, so all we got to do is wait for the 1st international double.

well its kinda hard to break that record… there s only 300balls per team innings and then a player to get 200 he at least need to play 150-200balls… that means he must be batting from the opening ball and get must be getting most of the strikes… well anything can happen in cricket, i still remember watching Sayeed Anwer hitting that knock of 194, awesome… he was having a bad run drought that time in India and then he smashed this superb knock… Well if there is anyone who can beat this record will be Mathew Hayden or Sachin Tendulakar….

Now, Players are playing to win the match. But Olden days,
First see their own records after that winning position of the match. because, we miss double century in onedays. But we expect double century from Yuraj singh or Mahendra singh Dhoni from India, Hershelle Gibbs or Jestin Kemp from South Africa, Hayden or Gilchrist from Australia, Chris Gale from West Indies, Misbah-ul-Haq from Pakistan…

It will get beaten, but noone can predict where or when.
My opinion is gilly, this summer. :)
50 overs is only 300 balls. a batsman by average will get about 150 balls if he bats for the entire innings. How many test double centuries are scored in less than 150 balls?

It will be someone from South Asia but, I say Captain Jayawardene can break the record. He just have to be 100% focus & brave.

There are many factors associated with scoring 200+ runs in
ODI. Look at the average number of deliveries a batsman
faces and how many runs have been scored of it. In an ODI,
a team faces 300 balls(50*6) give or take a few for Wides and
Nos. With in these confines, a batsman has to stay for the
entire duration of 300 balls and assuming he faces 150 balls,
he needs to a SR of 200/150 and most importantly he should
not get out. It is hard and but with some luck it is possible.
Of course, records are meant to be broken and will happen.
