Its as well known for backyard cricket as the USA is known for backyard baseball. I don’t think you’ll get an “A” on that speech.
Perhaps you should speak more about the backyard nature of Australians…They BBQ a lot, spend a lot of time outside, I’m sure they play cricket in the backyard, but I’d bet any Aussie would rather be down at the nets or on a pitch? Australian identity isn’t about backyard cricket. There sure would be lots of broken windows.
If you are trying to be persuasive, talk about something you have passion about.

This is where players like Brett Lee got their start. He played with his two brothers for years to achieve his spot in Aus cricket today.

Ever heard the song – “I scored a hundred in the backyard at mum’s”? That pretty well sums it up.
We’ve all played backyard cricket as kids – ALL of us. We do this because we actually have backyards to play in, and don’t have to resort to playing in the streets of Mumbai ;-)
    Over the fence – 6 & out.
Catch off the rolladoor or roof – out
Hit mum’s roses on the full – out
    Can’t get out 1st ball
Ball lands in dog sh1t – batsman has to clean it
Break a window – you are SOOOOO out (and a good belt from dad to boot)
