Why Is My Pet Cricket Trying To Eat Astroturf?

4 December 2009 5 Comments

No, I’m not insane. I have a pet cricket named Keith. There’s a piece of astroturf on the bottom of his cage, which isn’t glued down. Somehow, he crawled underneath, and appeared to be eating it. What the heck is wrong with him?

He may just be attempting to burrow, but you do need to keep in mind that we’re dealing with a creature that has a brain the size of a pinhead, so make sure that there is sufficient real food available. Although I don’t suspect that the stuff is particularly poisonous, if he shows signs of toxicity you might consider replacing the astroturf.
